Art handler

Xavier Hufkens is one of Europe’s leading galleries for contemporary art. With three locations in Brussels, the gallery represents multiple generations of leading contemporary artists and estates and participates in up to ten international art fairs annually.

You work within a technical team responsible for:

• The day-to-day management of the gallery’s warehouse.
• The efficient and safe organisation of the artworks in the warehouse and the updating of the database.
• The professional and careful packing and unpacking of artworks, and the preparation of artworks for transport.
• The creation of condition reports upon receipt of artworks in the warehouse.
• The follow up with the gallery team regarding deliveries of artworks.
• The installation and dismantling of artworks in the gallery and at clients’ premises in collaboration with professional fine art shippers.
• The installing and dismantling of exhibitions in the gallery and booths at art fairs abroad.
• Overseeing the cleanliness of the warehouse and general maintenance of the equipment.

Profile

• You preferably have three to five years of relevant work experience, as an art handler or within the art world.
• You are attentive, hands-on, precise and careful in your actions.
• You are proactive, organised and responsible.
• You are communicative and can work both independently and in a team.
• You are discrete and know how to deal with confidential material and data.
• You have at least a category B driving licence.
• You have knowledge of common computer software.
• Knowledge of Dutch, English and French is preferred.

We offer a full-time position in a dynamic and growing company active in the international art scene. Working hours are from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 6 pm, with some flexibility where necessary (e.g. during fairs).
