Lee Krasner (1908–1984) was a New York based American abstract expressionist painter. Her work is held in the permanent collections of major institutions worldwide, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Tate, London; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, among many others. In this portrait, most of the image is taken up by her check shirt, her ease in it allowing her to submit to being subject.
