Overlooking Washington Square Park in New York City, 1 Fifth Avenue is a prestigious prewar Art Deco residential building. Sam Wagstaff, who was Mapplethorpe’s mentor, patron, and lover, was a resident for over a decade. Also located at the iconic namesake address is a bar and restaurant which has undergone many iterations over the years.
