Referred to as the Golden Mile and shot in slow motion on the beach in Margate, the town Emin grew up in, the artist rides on a horse at sunset while Delroy Wilson’s Riding For a Fall (1967) plays. Emin’s presence throughout the video is one of defiance. She wears a cowboy hat and an open blouse, staring seductively at the viewer. The video testifies to one of the threads throughout her decades long practice: a sharp and uninhibited dissection of gender stereotypes.
