In You made me feel like this (2017), Emin sits alone in her then home, an eighteenth-century Huguenot house in the shadow of Hawksmoor’s Christ Church in Spitalfields, London. She writes a letter to a lost love. Juxtaposing images of the churchyard’s First World War memorial with scenes of contemporary urban development, Emin’s personal heartache becomes a metaphor for the lives fractured by the conflict and for the eradication of history and memory within the built environment.
