Louise Bourgeois, Tracey Emin and Nathanaëlle Herbelin in Une Chambre à Soi
14 September—12 November 2024
Group exhibition at Château La Coste, Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, France
This exhibition curated by Margaux Plessy and displayed in Richard Rogers's Suspended Gallery, will tell the story of a night, from sunset to sunrise. Visitors, immersed in the warm and intimate world of a bedroom, will move from dusk to dawn, to the rhythm of the works specially designed for the exhibition.
The stroll will begin with an invitation to close one's eyes. It will end with an invitation to open them again. In the meantime, during a solitary night, visitors will have discovered the works of more than fifteen artists from the emerging French and international scene, in dialogue with female artists, figures in the history of art.
Among them, Louise Bourgeois, Tracey Emin, Etel Adnan and Sophie Calle. Each painting, sculpture and tapestry will tell the phase of the night to which the artist belongs, what it evokes for her, or on the contrary, the silence it provokes. This tightrope walk will be accompanied by a story made up entirely of words, extracts and ideas borrowed from the greatest authors of French literature, because "How can we not think of them when we deal with a subject such as the night", confides Margaux Plessy.
