Michel François in 10 ans de La Boverie
29 May—23 August 2026
Group exhibition at La Boverie, Liège, Belgium
To mark the tenth anniversary of La Boverie’s reopening (2016–2026), the Liège Museum of Fine Arts is dedicating a major exhibition to the richness of its collections. Through a journey featuring 300 works, displayed throughout the entire upper gallery, visitors are invited to move from shadow to light. They will get a behind-the-scenes look at the museum through two major, intertwined themes: the rediscovery of the collections and the inner workings of museums.

Thus, the exhibition itinerary showcases the breadth of Liège’s collections, including masterpieces, but above all works unknown to the general public or rarely exhibited. Moving from the storage areas into the light of the gallery walls, these previously unseen works are presented along a visitor path dedicated to the museum’s operations. They illustrate how the museum operates, explore the world of art, and detail its ins and outs.
The sections will successively cover restoration, physical and chemical analysis, conservation in storage, the building of the collection, research and its discoveries, collaborations and partners, and, finally, public outreach. Engaging anecdotes and insights into the works punctuate the tour, which concludes with a stroll through the sculpture garden in the museum’s glass-roofed atrium.
To document this journey, a richly illustrated catalog will feature all the works added to the collection during the 2016–2026 period. Some of these donations, bequests, purchases, and loans will be accompanied by explanatory notes written in accessible language.
So, whether you’re a knowledgeable art lover, simply curious, a newcomer, or a professional expert, don’t miss this summer event. Everyone will find something to learn, discover, and marvel at as the spotlight shines on the collection. More than just a retrospective, this anniversary is intended to be an open, festive event accessible to all. Meetings, activities, and concerts will punctuate the summer, inviting everyone to (re)discover La Boverie and its collections.
