David Altmejd
Agora
text by Louise Déry, published by Galerie de l'UQAM, 2026, 240 pages, French and English
As an extension of the exhibition held at the Galerie de l’UQAM from November 7, 2025 to January 24, 2026, the publication David Altmejd. Agora explores in greater depth the theme of heads and busts created by the artist as autonomous objects, independent from his large-scale installations.

These works highlight different periods, postures, and techniques that characterize David Altmejd’s creative process. They reveal the artist’s vision of how beings are born, constructed, transformed, dislocated, and regenerated. They also convey the breadth of a practice obsessed with the body and its flesh, the skull and its cavities, the eye and its connections, the hands and fingers that shape matter.
The richly illustrated catalogue presents not only all the works brought together in the exhibition, but also a complete visual repertoire of nearly 300 heads and busts produced by the artist to date. An essay by curator Louise Déry, numerous quotations from David Altmejd himself, and several reference materials complete the publication.
